DevOps is a fairly recent phenomenon, but it started to be noticed in 2008 at the latest. However, the software and application sector has been quickly overwhelmed by this trend. DevOps has emerged as a way to simplify the software development life cycle. Before DevOps, the teams involved in the various stages of the lifecycle operated independently in very insulated silos. When it did happen, communication between the teams was frequently insufficient and inefficient.

The rise of DevOps.

DevOps is the combination of cultural principles, practices and tools that enable organizations to provide applications and services in a highly rapid fashion: developing and upgrading products more quickly than they do with standard software development or infrastructure management processes.

However, DevOps is not only about improving communication and integrating teams working together to achieve common objectives. In contrast, the truly efficient DevOps team is spread over a range of development and deployment methods. In order to ensure that customers receive the best possible product and that they can trust their information, it also tightly links monitoring, for example, Java logging, quality assurance, and security.

In order to achieve these objectives, DevOps also requires the use of good tools and processes. One of the major practices in DevOps is to automate workflows. The communication between parts of the DevOps team is further strengthened by a well implemented automation.

It’s become very popular in 15 years since organisations started applying DevOps, and its results have been excellent. In a survey conducted earlier this year, 61% of IT decision makers claimed that DevOps practices and methodologies enabled them to deliver better products for their customers. In addition, 49% of companies that rely on DevOps could shorten their product’s marketing time.
